Dia de Los Muertos Celebration

Wednesday, November 2, 2011
5:00pm-9:00pm
Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos
1817 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA

In the wake of the violence that devastated our community this year, Barrios Unidos began its annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration with a ceremonial community procession from Holy Cross Cemetery to the Barrios Unidos Center. Together we took a community-wide stand for peace. The ceremony continued with special guests Gina Rene, DJ Cultura Cura, and danza azteca by the group Itzcalli.

Dia de los Muertos is an annual holiday that celebrates the dead and those who have come before us. Barrios Unidos celebrates the day every year with a festive community ceremony, including local speakers, altars for those we've lost, and music.
